The Bible tells us that we are meant to serve others through our own faith as well as our kindness to others. As a teacher it will be our responsibility to not only educate our students so that they can become knowledgeable individuals but also educate them so that can be good human beings. I plan to have an open classroom environment where my students will be able to feel free to be who they are and to be true to themselves. Through my lessons and encouragement I hope to help them to develop into people who use their hearts and minds to change the world.
For my own part, I plan to use my passion and experience to change their lives with the hope that they will someday change someone's elses. When we give them the tools to become caring and successful individuals we are providing them with a world of opportunities to do the same for others.

Blog Post for Session 8
Relational trust is the role of building trust and relationships in supporting people and creating teams and organizations that serve students. It is important that trust be present in situations with teachers, coaches, administrators, and parents. This is especially important when it comes to evaluation, supervision, mentoring, and coaching relationships. What creates trust in each activity is somewhat different. therefore, it is critical that teachers know which activity they are taking part in so that they know the behaviors that communicate trust. For example, evaluators build trust by teachers knowing the criteria of evaluation and then having the evaluator work from those criteria consistently.
We build trust by saying what we are going to do and then doing it.

One of our primary responsibilities as an educator will be to work to reform the education system and to try and improve it. Only someone with an undivided heart and commitment to education will be able to do this. As a teacher I try to be fair and respectful for all of my students. I try to work with them when they have individual issues and also work to address overall class practices.
Although it is to difficult to remain objective in terms of the students in class, I try to work to make sure that all of my students get an equal opportunity within the classroom. I want my students to feel comfortable in the classroom where they can feel free to express their opinions as long as they aren't hurting anyone.

Blog Post for Session 6
One of my favorite teachers in high school was a woman who developed deep and personal connections with her students, demonstrated a passion for her subject, and was incredibly knowledgeable about history. I always enjoyed her class and I tried to do the same for my students. I believe that a teacher should be someone who can build friendly but professional relationships with their students and also make their subject interesting and enjoyable for their students.
I always appreciate a teacher who can connect with their students as well as with their subject. I believe that teachers who draw upon their personal experiences are the best teachers because they relate their real life experiences to their subjects.

As a teacher we are asked to become a member of several different groups. First, we are meant to be a part of the structure that we form in the classroom. Second, we are meant to be a part of the faculty and staff. Third, we are meant to be a part of the community in which we teach. And fourth, we should become a part of a larger group of educators in our county, state, country, and even the world. It is important that we develop a connectedness to each of these groups.
The first way to do this is to make time for the members of the communities we are a part of. Not only is it important for us to bond together as communities, it also helps our physical and mental health. Studies have found that people with stronger social connections live longer, have lower cholesterol and blood pressure, less physical impairments, and fewer health risks than people who are more isolated. You can help yourself and help others by staying connected.
The second way is to connect with the environment that we are teaching in. This might mean exploring the local culture of the community or getting to know the industries present there. For example, if you were teaching in a rural environment than you might want to take the time to learn about the farming industry there.
Finally, the last way that you can connect is to connect with members of your faith in the community. This is a great way to learn about the individuals in the area but also to identify with a group of people who have similar beliefs to you. They might also be able to help you on your own spiritual journey or through difficult times.

Blog Post for Session 4
In Romans 12:1-3, we are told to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to God because this is the most holy form of worship that we can offer him. We are not meant to conform to the world but rather to adjust our lives to God's will. Finally, we are not meant to think of ourselves too highly but think of ourselves with sober judgment.
The quote from Palmer's book tells us that we cannot teach students the great things of the universe unless we realize how great we are as individuals. I do believe that teachers have a responsibility to their students to help them develop their own sense of self as well as self-esteem. I do think that students need to have a sense of self worth in order to be successful learners simply because it is one less thing that is a distraction from their learning. When they are confident in who they are as individuals than they are more likely to participate in class and be more successful as a learner.
Although each of the quotes has several great points, I do believe that they are at odds with one another. The first quote from the Bible says that we should not think too highly of ourselves because we God's creations; on the other hand the quote from Palmer is about believing we are great so we can teach students that they are great. Even though they are contradictory, I do find myself agreeing with both of them.

Blog Post for Session 3
In the previous blog post I discussed the concepts between "identity" and "integrity." Additionally, there is the concept of an "undivided heart." An undivided heart is one that has an intimate, loving and deep relationship with God and no other love comes before this. There is no competition in this heart, God is first. As with any relationship this takes an investment of ourselves, our time, energy, mind and strength. Now, if we think of this as a chore, a responsibility, an "I should" then we will never get to a depth of love that causes our hearts to be whole in Him.
In this poem the author is instructing readers to become their own people (identity) and to be people with integrity. The poem also discusses an undivided heart where a person can be the individual they want to be and believe in what they would like.
